In this edition of our Sunset Hunter series, we’re heading to the stunning Marina Port Vell – an exceptional port situated in the heart of bustling Spanish city, Barcelona. Originally built for the 1992 Olympic Games, the marina has since undergone a multi-million-pound development, making it an undeniable escape for yacht-lovers around the globe.

But it’s not just the marina that’s drawn us to this incredible hideaway. With idyllic views of the city and out to sea, the marina offers the perfect base for yacht owners and guests to explore everything Barcelona and its nearby destinations have to offer.

Being just a stone’s throw away from Barcelona’s world-famous attractions, you can immerse yourself in the city’s rich history within minutes of arriving at the dock. Admire the magnificent Las Ramblas, Gothic Quarter, Passeig de Gràcia and Camp Nou – the home of FC Barcelona, all in a single morning.

Once you’ve finished exploring the city’s gems, Barcelona is lined with stretches of beautiful golden beaches. Forget taking the tram, we recommend hopping on your tender from the marina, racing for miles across the city’s magnificent coastline before picking your favourite spot for an afternoon of fun.

Drop anchor just off the coast to soak up the warmth of the Spanish sun from the comfort of your tender. Or, if you fancy a dip and a refreshing drink, swim ashore to one of the beach’s many lively beach huts, serving up the freshest paella dishes and thirst-quenching cocktails.

The beach is also a fantastic stop-off to get involved in a range of family-friendly watersports. Whether you and the kids love wind surfing, kite surfing or even a spot of paddle boarding, the calm, turquoise blue waters and fresh sea breeze make the perfect spot for sporting on-sea.

After heading back to Marina Port Vell for the evening, you can explore Barcelona’s sun-dappled squares and boutique-dotted boulevards with their colourful Gaudi architecture as the sun begins to sink behind the sea. Pick a spot to enjoy dinner, before spending hours tearing bread and chatting about the day’s events over an ice-cold jug of Sangria – an absolute must!

If you’re lucky enough to have a few days to spend exploring the Med, Barcelona is within a day’s sailing of yachting destinations such as Porto Cervo, the Balearic Islands and St Tropez. But for now, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy this beautiful Spanish sunset, illuminating the sky with shades of deep orange and red. One that will make your trip to the Spanish coast, a truly unforgettable one.
