Sunset hunting in the Port of Montenegro

We’re passionate about the coast. That’s why we love discovering great places around Europe to see beautiful sunsets. From the most prestigious marinas and yacht clubs, to hidden gems and forgotten coves, if you can capture the sunset there, we’re on a hunt to find it.

In the latest edition of our Sunset Hunter series, we’re setting off to one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, the impressive Porto Montenegro, lying within one of the world’s most idyllic nautical playgrounds, the Bay of Kotor.

Cradled by the Tivat coastline, and just off the Adriatic Sea, lies this luxury Mediterranean marina – best known for hosting outstanding superyachts. The region’s strong and distinctively affluent vibe is felt from the second you dock, making it an even more desirable location to embark on a tender adventure.

Officially recognised as an UNESCO World Heritage site, Porto Montenegro stands as the largest natural harbour in the eastern Mediterranean, and is Europe’s southernmost fjord – boasting a superb warm climate throughout the summer.

After mooring your yacht into one of the 450 award-winning marina berths, you can explore the glamorous complex on-foot. Prepare to be amazed as you discover Porto Montenegro’s extraordinary amenities; the ‘life-style village’, state-of-the-art hotels, fancy boutiques, swish bars and first-class restaurants. All before stopping for a fresh, locally-sourced European breakfast to fuel your day.

Beyond the glitz and glam of the resort lies the walled town of Kotor, a coastal gem filled with cobbled streets and squares, steep shorelines, uncrowded beaches, family-run restaurants and historic churches. Enjoy an afternoon wonder. Take in the views from the bay, admire the region’s show-stopping beauty, and pay a visit to the town’s ancient museum which bears testimony to the area’s seafaring prowess.

As the sun beats down over the land, now’s the perfect time to follow the coast south east to neighbouring town, Ulcinj, feeling the fresh sea breeze through your hair. Moor your tender onto Mala Plaža to experience a real taste of Albania, without crossing the border. This truly unique and vibrant town offers a warm atmosphere wherever you turn, with lively music echoing out of the stands around the beach.

Before dusk begins to fall over Montenegro, hop back in your tender and return to the magnificent Porto Montenegro marina to experience the sensational sunset from the Regent Hotel. Awarded the best resort in Montenegro, this 5-star luxury hotel is the ultimate retreat after a long day exploring.

Enjoy a glass of fine wine as you look out to the stunning views of beautiful Boka Bay and tuck into the best fine-dining in the country, while relaxing against the backdrop of Montenegro’s lush mountain ranges. As the sun sets below an oasis of calm, turquoise blue water, you can sink back into your chair and take in the breathtaking vista of the deep orange skyline. Nothing but pure bliss.

If you enjoyed sunset hunting with us, keep an eye out for the next instalment of our Sunset Hunter series – coming soon.
